Is Wish Granting a Huge Time Commitment? Short Answer: No

Morgan Kemp, second from left, became a wish granter in college.
Being in college teaches you a lot about time management and accomplishing the things you want to do. While I was busy with class, meetings, building friendships and improving my resume, I found joy in staying true to my values, and that was volunteering with Make-A-Wish® and transforming the lives of families in my community.

Revolutionary War Re-Enactors Make Wish History

John's wish was to be a drummer in a Revolutionary War re-enactment
It was Patriots Day in Concord, Mass., a day typically celebrated with a parade and Revolutionary War re-enactment. But the weather was so rainy and windy that the day’s events were cancelled. John wasn’t sure what would happen next – he had already traveled across America, from Anchorage to Boston, to lead the day’s march because, according to him, “this is where it all began.”

Wish to be Mermaid Proves the Impossible Is Possible

Neva wished to be a mermaid.
Neva has no problem telling people she’s a cancer survivor. “She’ll tell them she punched it in the face,” Neva’s mom, Abby, says with as much passion as her little girl exudes. Neva turns 6 years old this month. “People listen to her because she is so young. She actually holds a conversation about her cancer journey.”

This Doctor's Day, We Celebrate Physicians' Dedication to Wish Kids

Cindy, 8, I wish to be an ENT doctor, heart condition
March 30 is National Doctor's Day, and we’re taking a moment to honor the dedication of doctors in our community. Each year, thousands of physicians from across the country refer children to Make-A-Wish. They’re with wish kids during diagnosis and treatment. They often see kids and families at their lowest points … and they’re among the strongest advocates of the positive effect of wishes. Research* now shows, and physicians agree, wishes can help improve a child’s quality of life and produce better health outcomes.

A Wish Is More Than Nice. It's Necessary.

For a child with a critical illness, a wish can provide happiness, hope and a sense that the impossible is possible.

I have the honor of being a social worker at a children’s hospital in Charlotte, N.C. I work with wish kids – or, as I like to call them, little heroes – every day. The kids I work with are often living with critical illnesses that they’ll endure their entire lives, such as Diamond Blackfan anemia, hemophilia and other blood disorders. There are no cures for these diseases.
